Description
A climbing stage divided into two parts. The first to Rabanal del Camino with a moderate ascent. The second from Rabanal to Foncebadón is a steep climb, one of the toughest sections of the entire French Way.
(1)Astorga-(2)Murias de Rechivaldo: 0-4.7 km
We leave Astorga via San Pedro Street, cross the N-6 highway, and continue on the LE-142 road (photo 1). We reach the Ecce Homo hermitage, which is on the left. At this point, a road to the right leads to the village of Valdeviejas, where there is a hostel. We continue along the road, cross the A-6 highway via a bridge, and soon take a path parallel to the road (photo 2), which leads us to Murias de Rechivaldo (photo 3).
(2)Murias de Rechivaldo-(3)Santa Catalina de Somoza: 4.7-9.3 (4.6 km)
A gently ascending path (photos 4 and 5) leads us to Santa Catalina (photo 6).
(3)Santa Catalina de Somoza-(4)El Ganso: 9.3-13.2 (3.9 km)
We pass through Santa Catalina and take the small road (photo 7) that leads to El Ganso.
(4)El Ganso-(5)Rabanal del Camino: 13.2-20.3 (7.1 km)
We pass through El Ganso and return to the road (photo 8), which climbs steadily to Rabanal del Camino. At the entrance to the village, the arrows indicate a right turn, but we can also continue along the road.
(5)Rabanal del Camino-(6)Foncebadón: 20.3-25.9 (5.6 km)
This is one of the toughest sections of the entire French Way. We leave Rabanal via an upper path (photo 10) that leads us to the road, where a steep climb (photo 11) will take us to Foncebadón (photo 12).
