Description
We leave the hostel in Zafra via the Calle San Francisco until we reach a roundabout, where we continue straight on. On our right, we leave behind an ancient tower, la Torre de San Francisco, which is all that remains of the ancient monastery (photo 1 km 0.7). We continued along a concrete road (photo 2 km 2.7) which rises until we reach the to km 3.2 km point. Continuing straight down the hill we we have ascended (photo 3 km 3.5).
The trail leads to the center of Los Santos de Maimona, to la Plaza España, where there is a Church called a Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Angeles (photo 4 km 4.1). Los Santos de Maimona is a village of 8,000 inhabitants in which we find all services.
Leaving los Santos de Maimona for the next village of Villafranca de los Barros, we travel about 15 km without seeing any habitation. A beautiful landscape of olive groves and vineyards, but with little shade for shelter (photos 5, 6, 7, 8 y 9).
