Description
Stage with two options: through Villares de Órbigo or following the N-120. In this guide, we chose the first option, a pleasant stage between fields and vegetation. In Astorga, pilgrims who started in Seville on the Vía de la Plata join those on the French Way.
(1)Hospital de Órbigo-(2)Villares de Órbigo: 0-2.4 km
We cross Hospital de Órbigo via the main street and at the end of the village, we turn right onto a dirt road (photo 1) that leads us to Villares de Órbigo (photo 2). Another option is to follow the N-120 roadside path, but in this guide, we recommend the path through Villares de Órbigo.
(2)Villares de Órbigo-(3)Santibáñez de Valdeiglesias: 2.4-4.9 (2.5 km)
We pass through Villares de Órbigo and cross a road to ascend a small hill (photo 3) that ends on a small secondary road (photo 4) leading us to Santibáñez de Valdeiglesias.
(3)Santibáñez-(4)San Justo de la Vega: 4.9-12.5 (7.6 km)
We leave Santibáñez via a slightly uphill dirt path that passes by some warehouses (photo 5). This path takes us to the Crucero de Santo Toribio (photo 6), where pilgrims who opted to follow the road in Hospital de Órbigo rejoin. In the distance, you can already see Astorga, and in one kilometer, we reach San Justo de la Vega (photo 7).
(4)San Justo de la Vega-(5)Astorga: 12.5-16 (3.5 km)
We cross San Justo via the main street, and at the end of the village, we cross the Tuerto River via a bridge. We continue along a road (photo 8) that leads us to a footbridge (photo 9), where we cross the railway and enter Astorga.
