Description

We leave the hostel in La Bañeza down along the streets of San Julián, Angustias and Cervantes (photo 1) which eventually lead to Villalis highway along which we continue. At 1.7 km we leave the highway onto a road which runs to our right and after a few metres we turn onto a path which leads to an abandoned bridge. It is a bridge of the old railway line of Plasencia-Astorga over which we cross the Duerna river (photo 2 km 2.3). After the bridge we turn left and we take a path (photo 3 km 2.6) that will cross under the A-6 highway. We follow a well marked path (photo 4 km 4.7) until we get to Palacios de Valduerna (photo 5 km 5.8).

We pass through Palacios de Valduerna along the main street, the “carretera de Tabuyo” to the end of the village where we take a right. From this point we have a path of 10 km which is wide and well marked. It rises slightly through land of oak trees and scrub (photo 6 km 8.3 and photo 7 km 13.6).

After 10 km from Palacios de Valduerna we cross the A-6 motorway and look for the path which runs parallel to th N-VI. Here we find the roman bridge of Valimbre (photo 8 km 18). We cross the small bridge and pass to the other side of N-VI (photo 9) where we arrive at the small town of Celada.

We leave the town by calle de la Cuesta and follow the path which runs along the space inbetween the A-6 and N-VI motorways. After passing km 23.4 (photo 10), we will leave the road to enter Astorga. We continue straight, and at the end of a small slope, we will reach the center of Astorga.
