20.Baños de Montemayor–Calzada de Bejar

Note: If we come from Aldeanueva via the Via Verde, we need to follow it for 4.1 km until we leave it to rejoin the official route.

We leave the hostel of Castañar street on the left until we get to the N-630. If we haven’t stayed at the hostel, we continue following the N-630.

We arrive at a sharp bend. If we continue cycling along the road it will lead us sloping nicely to the gas station. If we walk we will see at the curve of the road on our right, a stone walkway that climbs towards the port of Bejar (photo 1 km 0.4). Our path crosses the highway 1.1 km after the bend and again after at km 1.6, from which we continue along it to the gas station (photo 2 km 3.0). After the curve there is 2.4 km stretch for those walkers and 3.4 for cyclists which ascends 187 m.

At 300 meters from the gas station you turn left (careful cyclists many people get lost here!) (photo 3 km 3.2).

We pass under the motorway A-66 which has a large mural of the vía de la plata (photo 4 km 3.6). From here we follow along a dirt track (photo 5 km 6.4) to km 7.1 (260 meters down) where the path joins a small road (DSA-282) where we will take a right (photo 6 km 7.1). We will continue along the gently inclining road (photo 7 km 9.2) for 3.5 km until we arrive at a group of houses (photo 8 km 10.7).

If you walk you have to take a left turn between two houses, where the road begins a steep climb. If your biking follow the road until you reach the sign for Calzada de Bejar 1 (there are actually 1.7 km) (photo 9). The climb is 100 meters and has some taxing ramps. If you go down the road you will find the hostel on the same road on your left. If you go by the highway, upon reaching the village turn left to the hostel.
