4.Almaden–El Real de la Jara

ATTENTION CYCLISTS If you're cycling, it's recommended to take the road. By road, it's 15.6 km, 2.2 km more than on foot. The other option is to continue on the path until kilometer 2.8 and then take the road (see map).

We leave Almadén de la Plata by the Bullring and now precede down a dirt track (photo 1 km 0.7). At appox. 1.5 km after the hostal we see a fence on the left, we have to cross: Be sure to cross this fence because if you do not you will get lost.

We go on an estate with horses and look for the exit point that will be found left of some houses. These are 2 of the many points we will encounter at this stage. Just outside the second gate there is a steep but short slope. However the next 7 km are mainly downhill. The road runs along a path surrounded by oak trees (photos 2 and 3).

The terrain is easy for km 7.0, after which it begins a rise of 1.7 km in to an altitude of 137 meters, but is nothing in comparison to the Calvary slope in the previous stage (photo 4 km 8.2). From the peak there is a very steep descent of 700 meters. At the 9.4 km mark this leads to a dirt road of tread width (photo 5 km 10.3) which then leads directly to El Real de la Jara (photo 6 km 13.1).
